Pattern of humanist solidarity.

American humanist effectively helps and supports Slovak humanist movement.

In this word of high technology new ways of communication open between people who feel responsibility for betterment of our future in our own social environment as well as in distant places of the globe .

One of such examples is the story of how Prometheus Society - which is the only representative of Slovak humanist movement - acquired a staunch friend residing " in the opposite side of this globe" - as we used to call it - namely in the USA.

Thanks to our Web an American humanist - Edward Poll addressed the Prometheus Society and enquired about some more details of our activities and problems we were facing. In a surprisingly short time we have clarified our mutual positions and Ed became a REGULAR member of Prometheus Society of Slovakia ( Our by-laws permit it )

Since that time he INVENTED NEW WAYS how to offer real help to us.

  1. He spreads information about our existence and hardships we have to overcome in the current CLERICAL atmosphere of Slovak political life.
  2. He made a small financial collection in his own humanist club and transferred it on the Prometheus Society's account
  3. He and his wife volunteered to make correction of important documents we had to issue in English language and they did it with an extreme care - including English summaries in a brochure we just published due to the Grant given by Institute for Humanist Studies , Albany USA

We could continue in some more details, but we want to stress one point which only those who are involved directly themselves can experience : THE LOFTY FEELING that you have someone who cares about your difficult problems and is ready to help with his/her all might is GREAT.

Thank you Ed and Jean, your support is not only a pattern of humanist solidarity, but it gives us endurance to overcome the enormous clerical pressures in Slovakia and feel again our own human dignity.
