CONCORDAT WITH the SLOVAK REPUBLIC

The example of  Concordat concluded with Vatican and Slovakia  may serve as a deterring pattern, proving how concordats can completely annihilate democracy, even if democratic regime has been enshrined in the State Constitution.

The “Basic Treaty” with the Holy See (Concordat) contains provisions never before agreed upon by any other nation, which covertly or openly replaced civil laws in Slovakia by some provisions of canonical law.

Further allowances to Vatican  have been achieved by the provisions enabling to accept additional partial treaties to the concordat ratified by parliament , making thus possible to smuggle in the national legislature complete dependence on the Vatican by such additional “amendments”.

One of the recent additional treaties was on the COMPULSORY lessons of religion / or ethics starting from the first year of primary schools, which violates the basic human rights, claiming that although children must have access to religious teaching, nevertheless  nobody has the right to FORCE them to attend such teaching.

Some articles of the treaty are stressing the right of Catholic Church to enforce its rules TO ALL SLOVAK CITIZENS REGARDLESS OF THEIR DIFFERENT MIND .    ( examples:)

Art 2 (2)

The Holy See safeguards that the Catholic church makes use of every suitable means for moral shaping of citizens of Slovak republic for the benefit of mutual well-being in accordance with PRINCIPLES of CATHOLIC teaching in line with the legal system of Slovak republic.

(Comments: Like the principal feature of any FUNDAMENTALIST REGIME Slovakia legalised thus ONE SINGLE MORAL valid for ALL citizens, regardless of their being followers or not being followers of Catholicism. )

Article 7

Slovak republic acknowledges the right of everyone to make use of the right of stipulation based on conscience according to creed and moral teaching principles of CATHOLIC CHURCH The extent and conditions of this right will be specified by a particular international treaty between the contracting parties.

(Comments this ruling makes the moral teaching of Catholic church the only valid teaching allowing stipulation of conscience for EVERYONE based only on CATHOLIC teachings - regardless of his dissent with the Catholic moral teachings !)

Article 9.

Slovak republic will acknowledge as days of working rest Sundays and the following days :

A LIST OF 26 (nearly exclusively) CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS HOLYDAYS FOLLOWS

(Comments: This is a FORMAL issue , nevertheless it CONFIRMS the RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALIST ATTITUDE of Slovak state, and at the same time contradicts the international law according to which nobody can be forced to any formal expression of religious creed which is not his own belief .

About 40 % of Slovak citizens are not followers of Catholic creed . The basic treaty is going to force them to FORMAL EXPRESSION of a religious creed which is alien for them since they did not accept it as their own.

Besides, there is a host of other privileges - which are not granted to others- as a proof of its FUNDAMENTALIST TRENDS.

The most dangerous of them is the pending agreement on stipulation of conscience allowing civil disobedience to Catholics, making of them a privileged group with rights to civil disobedience. It stipulates Catholic morals for all citizens, infiltration of public schools by religious teaching, financing of church activities from the State budget.

This treaty has definitely robbed Slovakia of its sovereignty and made of it factually a colony of Vatican.
